What's on the Tube

I have also put my Animation Demo Reel on YouTube to get a better quality vid going. Head on over and check it out.

Demo it

Here's the latest version of my demo reel. It begins with my short animation titled "Wrecked", then continues with a look at some of my past work. I find that I'm more interested in the story side of animation, not so much with the details. I like that this medium can be used to easily create any scenario you can think of without breaking the bank in production. I had a lot of fun making all of these pieces and I plan on expanding my repertoire while exploring new ideas and techniques. So, without further ado, the main attraction!

Built of Super Sculpey

Anyone who has had the fortune of constructing a maquette based on their own designs knows how fun it is to create a physical representation of your own character. You start to figure out all the little things that you never thought of while it was in 2 dimensions. I had a heck of a time figuring out this fella's chin. Victor Big here took several days to build, but it was worth the effort. I still have him sitting on my dresser next to Vermek, another character I'll post in the near future.

Brass Slunkey!

Slunkey is a cross between a monkey and a sloth, or maybe I just like the name Slunkey. This is the 2D layout for what would eventually become a 3D character. Take a look!

My memory is a bit sketchy...

Some sketches done while planning a 3D lift assignment. Enjoy!

no lieutenant, your men are already dead

This is a 3D character design for a villain I call Lieutenant Kilgern. I imagine him as an evil astronaut saboteur who got blown in half by his own handy work, but managed to land in a cryogenic chamber and drift through space for decades. He's recovered by some futuristic baddies, who slap on a new pair of legs and let him loose.

...or something like that, I'll have to think that through someday. Anyways, enjoy!

new changes perhaps why not?

I've changed the direction I'm going with my identity and logo. I gave the cards a stark image of myself with my logo on my chest. I like the visual impact it has, but it also adds a goofy contrast to the type of guy I really am.
I simplified my logo a bit after getting some feedback. Someone commented that my previous version looked like a person on a skateboard. I immediately saw what they were talking about and I couldn't unsee it. So here it is in all it's glory.

stop. then go.

I decided I'm going to post a lot of my old work along with my new stuff I churn out. This short stop-motion animation titled Cans actually helped me get into The Art Center Design College. I made it in '04, but I still like the way it turned out.

Here is my card.

Just a quick look at my potential business cards. It's tough making them look good from a graphic design standpoint while at the same time showing off the lighthearted nature I'm looking to bring to my work.

My unsecret Identity

Here's the latest version of my personal logo. I'm liking the way it's shaping up, but there are still some small things I may want to change. I'm also going to be seeking some outside opinions and feedback; could be some problems I'm not seeing.

Am I in the right place?

Hello! I'm Luke and I like to make drawings that move, otherwise known as animation. I'll be using this blog to show my work, get feedback, and hopefully get better at what I do.

I guess that's it, so have fun and enjoy!
